Modeled after the historic D-21s of the early 20th century, the Bourgeois ‘Twenty-One’ is a nod to that no frills vintage dreadnought build that was a Rosewood non-herringbone dreadnought spec’d out like a D-18 with black/ white top purflings, tortoise bindings and Rosewood fretboard and bridge.
This Limited Edition D-Style ‘Twenty-One’ is #2 of 6 of this small batch Limited Edition model from Bourgeois Guitars in Lewison, ME. Built with old growth Blue Sinker Sitka Spruce top paired with Madagascar Rosewood back, sides, fretboard and bridge, 21-style Maple/ black top purfling and 1930’s style rosette, Waverly Relic tuners and traditional long saddle plus the full Aged Tone package: Dana Bourgeois’ proprietary Aged Tone thin gloss finish, Animal Protein glue construction and Aged Tone torrefied Adirondack Spruce braces under the hood drive this vintage inspired limited edition dreadnought.
The Blue Sinker Bearclaw Sitka Spruce was reclaimed from an old Alaskan fish trap and was originally cut around the turn of the century late 1800’s/ early 1900’s. The logs were tied together to make huge floating fish traps. This rare tonewood was salvaged from 100+ year-old structures originally used to corral and trap salmon. A century of submergence under brackish waters has imparted unique resonant characteristics and a slight bluish/ gret hue to this remarkable tonewood.
Other features include Mahogany neck, Waverly Relic tuners with oval buttons, Pearl 21-style fretboard dots and logo, vintage checkerboard backstrip, Ebony pins with Pearl dots, 1 23/32″ nut width and more.
