…buy a delicate instrument sight-unseen over the internet from a shop four hours away. But higher end banjos are uncommon in my neighborhood so I did. I found the Vega I wanted at Down Home. I thought the price was very fair. I gave them a call. I talked with Steve. He was very helpful. He stayed in touch with me. He kept me updated on when it would ship and when it would arrive. They shipped it overnight; for which I am extremely grateful. And when I opened the box I found it was packed so securely I actually felt a little foolish for being as worried as I was. Plus, the kids had a great time with all the bubble wrap. I’ve never walked through the door at Down Home but the next time I buy an instrument I will look here first. Thanks guys.

Today was my 4th or 5th visit to Down Home, I was looking for a new Martin as my son absconded my acoustic. Frank set me up in the back, with all the nice toys, very quiet and lined up a few I wanted to look at. He explained the differences then closed the door and let me play. You cannot do that at your local guitar center. These guys are pros. I picked one out and walked out the door with a huge smile on my face. Kudos to Down Home, I’ll be back!

I recently bought two Collings mandolins from Steve and had them shipped over to Japan. Doing that, sight unseen, on a couple of expensive instruments is a somewhat risky thing to do. However, I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. The mandolins exceeded my expectations in terms of sound, playability, and overall quality.
