With softer contours and a longer body dimension than Collings’ 0 14-Fret model, the 0 12-Fret has a balanced and full tone with slightly more bass and overall volume. First introduced 7 years prior to the Civil War in 1854, the articulate tone and convenient size of the “0” 12-Fret body dimensions have remained popular to this day. This unique custom 03 Deluxe features a great set of rare Nicaraguan Rosewood (Dalbergia Tucurensis) for the back andf sides. With wonderful orange/ brown coloring with contrasting dark streak grain lines and lighter cream center, this beautiful tonewood has similar specific gravity to the famed Brazilian Rosewood and has that full, glassy Rosewood tone. Pairing perfectly with the Old Growth Sitka Spruce sunburst top, this comfortable 12-fret short scale build is perfect for expressive fingerstyle playing or strummed with a pick.
A rare offering on this build is the colorful vintage style Deluxe Mosaic top purfling, rosette and backstrip that is only reserved and normally made only big enough for the Parlor Deluxe model. The folks at Collings were able to make this fit on a larger 0 body and this is the first that we have had like that. With the rich sunburst top finish and full Ivoroid body, fretboard and headstock bindings, this is sharp looking and playing guitar.
Features include Honduran Mahogany neck with slotted headstock, Ebony blank fretboard and pyramid bridge, Waverly Gold tuners with Ivoroid knobs, Ebony headstock overlay, Ivoroid heelcap and wedge, black/ white headstock and back purfling and Ebony pins. With a comfortable short 24 7/8″ scale and custom 1 3/4″ nut width with 2 5/16″ string spacing at the bridge, this model is well suited to both fingerstyle and strumming techniques and also excels as a recording instrument. Convenient as a travel guitar but with the authoritative tone of a performance instrument, the 0 12-Fret is a versatile choice for any guitarist.
