Bluegrass great Ricky Skaggs has played Bourgeois Guitars since they began. Dana Bourgeois and Ricky came up with a guitar that they feel captures the essence and quality of pre-war craftsmanship in a unique and elegant design. This is a true heirloom guitar, built for you, for your children and someday for your children’s children. And, of course, as a Limited Edition signed by one of the great musicians of our time, a valuable addition to any guitar player’s collection.
This is the Limited Edition #4 of 10 built original for Down Home Guitars in late fall 2008 built with Master Grade Brazilian Rosewood back and sides and Premium Adirondack Spruce top. This is the “Holy Grail” of tonewoods and along with all the other amazing custom features on this build is nothing short of spectacular. We are just as stunned by this beautiful and timeless guitar now as the day we got it almost 10 years ago and it is still in the same mint condition as when it arrived.
Rare Certified Fossilized Mammoth Ivory make up the bridge, heelcap and endpiece and are inlaid with Abalone flourishes. This extremely rare Ivory material is just not available from Bourgeois or others anymore. Dana and Ricky both loved the sound of the Mammoth Ivory bridge. Dana says ” I have fallen in love with the clear and immediate tone that is unique to Ivory (think of an Ivory bridge as functioning like a BIG saddle). And while you are looking, check out the absolute silky beauty of the Premium Adirondack. The best of the best.”
Other unique features for this guitar include colorful Abalone Pearl 42-style top purflings and rosette and featuring the unique intricate interweaving of the triple Abalone rosette as it meets the Abalone that surrounds the bound fingerboard, Nickel Waverly tuners engraved with Ricky Skaggs’ initials, Pearl inlayed pickguard, Dana’s signature 45 style fertboard inlay and peghead flourish and a whole boat load more.
