Our Guitar of the Month: Santa Cruz H13 42 Style 3000-Year-Old Sitka Spruce and African Blackwood with Snakewood Inlays Custom

A first-ever from Santa Cruz – an H13 body with 3000 Year Old recovered Ancient Alaskan Sitka Spruce with Abalone 42 style top border paired with African Blackwood back and sides. Complete with Snakewood century block fretboard inlay with Abalone dots, Snakewood pyramid bridge, overlay, and bindings. A stunning masterpiece of musical art.

The greyish/ green color of the Ancient Spruce top is the actual natural color. This was unearthed on an island of Alaska and was buried in a landslide over 3000 years ago. Over the 3 millennia the color has changed to the ghostly hue it is now. That is not a stain- it’s the actual color of the wood. The tree was estimated to be 1000 years old when it fell. Due to the capsulizing of the tree, it did not rot but aged over that time. The fact is was retrieved and in workable condition and then quarter sawn to make an amazing guitar is an extraordinary feat for this piece of wood.

African Blackwood is a true Rosewood (Dalbergia melanoxylon) from Central Africa that carries a close tonal resemblance to the highly prized Brazilian Rosewood (Dalbergia nigra). As its name describes, It has a black, dark finish with subtle grain lines and is a little heavier than Brazilian Rosewood.

Tied together with the full package of Figured Snakewood ‘Century Block’ fretboard inlays, pyramid bridge, bindings, headstock overlay, rosette and more. The Abalone Pearl 42 style top trim and rosette match wonderfully with the natural aesthetic of the tonewoods and binding. This is a one of kind beauty, perfect for home, studio, stage, or a prized collection.
