In the late 1920s, 12-fret, slotted head guitars began their historic transformation into the solid headstock and alternate body sizes found in guitars still to this day. This is a great excellent condition 2022 custom OMS 12-Fret from our friends at Bourgeois Guitars in Lewiston, ME. Built with an Aged Tone (torrefied) Bearclaw Adirondack Spruce sunburst top paired with a wonderful set of Figured Mahogany with no stain for the back and sides with almost geometrical muti-directional and dimensional figuring throughout. Dana Bourgeois’ signature specs include his mult-colored DB Signature herringbone top purfling, figured Koa body bindings, DB Signature wood arrow backstrip, signature wood rosette and Waverly Gold tuners with Snakewood buttons.
Other features include Aged Tone Adirondack Spruce bracing, Ebony black fretboard and bridge, Mahogany neck with gentile V carve and slotted headstock, Ziricote headstock overlay, Bone nut and saddle, figured Koa heelcap and wedge, tortoise pickguard, Bone pins with black dots, 25.5″ scale length, 1 3/4″ nut width, 2 5/16″ saddle spacing and more.
We think of the Bourgeois OMS as the 12-fret version of the OM, as opposed to the other way around. It boasts all the tonal properties of their OM, with the added power and fullness of a 12-fret. This design places the soundhole closer to the waist of the guitar aiding in maximum vibration. By locating the bridge at the widest part of the lower bout, it can most efficiently drive the top. This throwback design allows maximum power with minimum playing effort, while affording a loose, open quality to the sound. The OMS combines these throwback features with a slotted headstock and a 25.5” scale neck to recreate a design still coveted by fingerstylists – and a few flatpickers.
