Santa Cruz 00 Tunnel 13 Redwood and Cocobolo with Pickup Used (2022)

$9,800.00

Built with premium rare tonewoods with a story, this very clean excellent condition 2022 Santa Cruz 00 features old growth Tunnel 13 Redwood with faded edge burst paired with Cocobolo back and sides giving this 00 12-fret a wonderful voice and presence, a perfect compliment to any serious collection and fit for the fingerstyle player but just as much at home for the couch strummer alike.

Talk about wood with a story, the top wood is none other than a set of the historic Tunnel 13 Redwood, harvested in the Siskiyou mountains of Oregon from the wreckage of the famed ‘last great train robbery in the West’ in 1923. This was reclaimed from a virgin Redwood beam that was supporting tunnel #13 on the Southern Pacific train line since the mid 1880’s. The premium timber has aged for over 120 years, being inundated by the vibration of countless trains over that time (wonderful for guitar wood), and was witness to the October 11, 1923 attempted robbery of Southern Pacific train number 13 (coincidentally), the Portland-San Francisco Express, dubbed ‘The Gold Special” (pulling 13 cars) by the DeAutremont Brothers, where 4 men were killed. This fine–grained old–growth Redwood is thought to have been more than 2,000 years old at the time of harvest, imbuing this instrument with historical significance, tone, and beauty.

The back and sides of this beauty are a a great set of Cocobolo (Dalbergia retusa), is a true Rosewood from Central America with rich burnt orange hue with wonderful dark stripe figuring and featherlike heartwood contrast in the lower bout. Other features include Adirondack Spruce bracing, Hide Glue construction, Ivoroid full body, neck and headstock bindings, Mahogany low profile satin finish neck with slotted headstock, Ebony fretboard, pyramid bridge and headstock overlay, herringbone top purfling, zig zag back and wedge strip, Waverly Nickel tuners with Ivoroid buttons, 1 3/4″ nut width, 2 3/16″ saddle spacing, 24.75″ short scale length and more.

Plug in and play with the dual source LR Baggs Anthem pickup system with volume and blend controls in the soundhole. Perfect for stage, studio or home.

The Santa Cruz 00 is an ergonomic delight.  This instrument delivers ease of playability and surprising volume for its size. Certainly not just a smaller version of the 000, the 00 is a specialized tool onto itself. The 12-fret body and 24-3/4 inch string length tunes to pitch at lower string tension, making the action supple while requiring less of a stretch between frets. The size and voicing of the 00 give it an exceptionally balanced EQ with a wonderful complex tone and remarkable projection. This serious instrument is surprisingly loud. The 00’s portability makes it an excellent companion for composing and recording, and its sophisticated voice encourages players to explore undiscovered fretboard possibilities. Holding this guitar just feels right.

Includes original Ameritage hardshell case.
