The CJ is Collings’ version of the classic slope-shouldered dreadnought. Huge on tone and clarity it’s been the choice of many a stage musician. While the CJ is similar in width and depth to the traditional dreadnought, it has a distinctly different tone. Despite its large size this model works well with the custom shorter string scale, resulting in a somewhat percussive bottom end ideal for acoustic blues or other styles that benefit from a more controlled bass response.
This excellent condition 2011 CJ Short scale is a spectacular suped up 3-style custom model built with a German Spruce top with vintage Gibson style sunburst paired with a great set of Madagascar Rosewood back and sides with hand rubbed Varnish finish, a rarity from Collings and something they do not offer anymore on guitars because of the painstaking work that it takes to do. The Varnish adds a warmth and broken in feel that that you feel as well as hear. This and the wood combination adds punch, depth, clarity, volume and tonal complexity to the Collings Jumbo. One strum will reveal the brilliance of this CJ. Perfect for really all kinds of music, fingerstyle or strummed as well.
Other features include Ivoroid full body, fretboard and headstock bindings, Mother of Pearl fancy MOM fretboard inlays, Abalone Pearl ring rosette, Pearl and Abalone flourish headstock inlay, Adirondack Spruce pre-war style braces, Ebony fretboard and bridge, Honduran Mahogany C shaped neck, Gold Waverly tuners, 3-style chevron backstrip, Ebony headstock overlay, 1 3/4″ nut width, 24.9″ short scale length and more.
Very well taken care of CJ with just a few slight top dings but overall clean and pristine.
