Designed by Martin’s Field Sales Staff, The MC-DSM Acoustic Guitar is an optimum “M” or 0000 size cutaway studio performance instrument that combines back and sides of highly Flamed Hawaiian Koa with an Italian Alpine Spruce top, yielding powerful tone.
One of only 100 limited edition guitars, this very clean excellent condition 2008 Martin MC-DSM includes forward-shifted scalloped bracing, herringbone rosette, Waverly Nickel tuning gears, original Geib style vintage case and Ebony bindings. The fingerboard and headplate, also of Black Ebony, are graced respectively with Foden style inlays and Martin’s script logo in select Abalone. This is #69 of 100.
Slightly wider than a dreadnought (16″ across the lower bout!), but with the delicate curves of a 000, the Martin M body (sometimes called a 0000) may be one of the company’s most interesting and versatile designs. Most of Martin’s popular designs were refined during the company’s “Golden Era” of the ’20s and ’30s, but the M debuted in 1977. The body was a take on recreating the ’30s Martin archtops with flat tops. Once David Bromberg began playing an archtop conversion on stage, there was growing public demand for these powerful but articulate guitars.
Beyond the Standard Series, Martin hasn’t offered many upper-end M models. The MC-DSM is the signature guitar of the Martin sales staff. DSM means “District Sales Manager,” and DSMs are the Martin dealer’s direct contact to the company. The specs of the MC-DSM were dreamed up by the company’s sales staff and it has the M-body with a cutaway, but it has an Italian Alpine Spruce top and Flamed Koa back and sides.
