This Vintage Southerner, or VS, is a perfect example of that. A vintage inspired short scale slope shoulder dreadnought with lots of punch. We designed this dazzling VS with great custom features like premium Figured Mahogany top, back and sides with a full body custom sunburst, full Snakewood bindings, bridge, rosette, backstrip, headstock overlay and more. The custom full body sunburst is rich in color and accentuates the Figured Mahogany figure, just like the sunset off the Santa Cruz coast.
The properly name Snakewood overlay matched with the bindings looks like snake skin on the haircut style headstock. The Snakewood bridge, trim, backstrip and bindings lends a perfect contrast to the sunburst Mahogany and Flamed Mahogany neck. Wonderful tone and balance. With Adirondack Spruce scalloped bracing and Hide Glue construction under the hood, you would think with your eyes closed this had a crisp Spruce top. We wanted to highlight the whole top, so the pickguard is left in the case to be attached if desired. A guitar for the senses, the VS has the great tone you expect- balance, warmth and sweetness in an eye candy build. A guitar for years, or generations, to come.
Inspired by the iconic Gibson 1930’s Advanced Jumbo and J-45 and the early 60’s Epiphone Texan. These early powerhouse slope shoulder dreadnoughts lent their considerable retro cool to the origins of the Vintage Southerner. Each of these was a favorite of several of SCGC’s veteran luthiers and so inspired this regal compliment to the SCGC VJ Model. The must have feature of the SCGC VS is the shorter, 24-3/4 inch scale length. It is so yielding to the touch that fretting and reach are a pleasure. The scale puts the bridge in the optimal position to produce the comforting, growling presence of an old blues recording. Responds with considerably more refined quality than the oldies, while inspiring room to grow throughout your musical career.
