Santa Cruz H13 Custom African Blackwood and Fort Ross Chapel Redwood with Snakewood Inlays

Original price was: $20,695.00.Current price is: $18,625.00.

SCGC’s concept for the H-13 is to achieve power beyond what would be expected in a small-bodied guitar. Two fundamental lutherie tricks make this possible: a longer string length (more downward pressure at the saddle) and more air space via a deeper body (increased volume and bass response). To place the bridge in the optimal position for power and maintain the longer string length, the neck needs to join the body at the 13th fret. Cool, huh? This is a gorgeous classic with power and presence expected from a much larger instrument. Perfect for aggressive fingerstyle blues and vocal accompaniment, the H-13 feels really sweet to hold.

This is a wonderful custom H13 model with premium tonewoods that go together perfectly and trimmed out with Snakewood inlays and bindings. Built with African Blackwood (Dalbergia melanoxylon), a true Rosewood from East Africa, for the back and sides, paired with the 200+ year old Fort Ross Chapel Redwood top reclaimed from the 19th century chapel at Fort Ross located on the California coast. Trimmed out with Snakewood Century Block fretboard inlays, full body, neck and headstock bindings, rosette, headstock overlay and more. Adirondack Spruce scalloped bracing and hide glue construction under the hood power this clear and versatile build. The classy touch of the wood cowboy rope top purfling, Ivoroid dots and script logo plus Nickel Waverly tuners with Ivoroid buttons  set off this heirloom quality beauty.

Other features include Mahogany neck with slotted headstock, Ebony fretboard and pyramid bridge, Snakewood heelcap and wedge, S29 herringbone backstrip, 1 3/4″ nut width, 25.375″ scale length and more.

About Fort Ross Redwood
Fort Ross was established in 1812 by fur trappers on the West Coast of what would become California, near what is now Bodega Bay in Sonoma County. The Chapel was built circa 1824, entirely of old growth Redwood planks with mortise and tenon joints. The Fort Ross Chapel was found eligible for designation as a National Historic Landmark in 1969, architecturally significant as a rare U.S. example of a log church constructed on a Russian quadrilateral plan. An accidental fire destroyed the chapel on October 5, 1970 and during the reconstruction that ensued, a few of these beams that were burned and removed were found to have vertical grain, suitable for instrument building.

Fast forward 50 years and these precious few beams were acquired by Richard Hoover of Santa Cruz Guitars and and just recently have been milled to premium guitar tops. Richard’s assessment is the processed lumber is 200 years old and based upon the thickness of the beams, their width and length, tightness and shape of the annual rings that the original trees to be quite massive and possibly thousands of years old.

Includes Ameritage hardshell case and Lifetime Warranty.
