This is an absolute amazing custom model that is our take of Richard Hoover’s one off ‘Ghost Oak’ guitar Santa Cruz made a few years back. Instead of Oak, we used African Blackwood, a true Rosewood, for the back and sides. The top is 3,000 year old Sitka Spruce from an island off of Alaska that was buried and kept preserved for millenia. The ghostly greyish/ green hue is the actual top color, this is not a stain at all. Tied together with the full package of Figured Snakewood ‘Century Block’ fretboard inlays, pyramid bridge, bindings, headstock overlay, rosette and more. The classy touch of the wood rope top purfling, Bone pins and Ivoroid dots and logo just set off this absolutely remarkable beauty.
This guitar is full off timeless bling but has absolutely no Pearl inlays what so ever. A very unique factor for a unique build. This guitar was so amazing, Richard Hoover from Santa Cruz Guitars decided to show it off at the 2019 Winter NAMM Show in Anaheim, CA recently.
There is an amazing tone and clarity of this Ancient Spruce top, which had been curing and aging already for a 1000 years at the time of Christ. You can feel the history with every strum. Paired with African Blackwood (Dalbergia melanoxylon) back and sides, a rare and premium Rosewood that many say rivals or even exceeds Brazilian Rosewood, this guitar has warmth, depth, punch and clarity accented by the 13 fret deep body configuration.
