Built with premium rare tonewoods with a story, and upgraded custom features, the F Custom from Santa Cruz has a wonderful voice and presence, a perfect compliment to any serious collection and fit for the fingerstyle player and flatpicker alike.
Talk about wood with a story, the top wood is none other than a set of the historic Tunnel 13 Redwood, harvested in the Siskiyou mountains of Oregon from the wreckage of the famed ‘last great train robbery in the West’ in 1923. This was reclaimed from a virgin Redwood beam that was supporting tunnel #13 on the Southern Pacific train line since the mid 1880’s. The premium timber aged for over 120 years, being inundated by the vibration of countless trains over that time (wonderful for guitar wood), and was witness to the October 11, 1923 attempted robbery of Southern Pacific train number 13, the Portland-San Francisco Express, dubbed ‘The Gold Special” (pulling 13 cars) by the DeAutremont Brothers, where 4 men were killed.
The back and sides of this beauty come from a great set of African Blackwood (Dalbergia melanoxylon), a true Rosewood from central Africa properly named for it’s deep, dark coloring. A heavier Rosewood, this rare wood is said to rival the tone of the famed endangered Brazilian Rosewood, considered the Holy Grail of tonewood.
Fully bound in figured Hawaiian Koa with matching Koa rosette, backstrip, heelcap and wedge with black/ white top trim, Ebony fretboard, bridge and overlay and Nickel Gotoh 510 tuners, this is a stunning handcrafted guitar, that will make a great center piece to any collection. Braces made with Adirondack Spruce, an extremely light yet stiff wood, drive the custom F, with Hot Hide Glue construction just like the old guitars.
This hand built heirloom quality OM is a prime example of the attention to detail and master craftsmanship Richard Hoover and the folks at Santa Cruz Guitar Company are known for.
