Richard Hoover of Santa Cruz Guitars worked closely with Scott Law to come up with the D-Law signature dreadnought. The build they came up with is what Scott called a ‘bulls-eye recipe’ for a responsive, playful dreadnought with a dynamic range that can hold its own in ensemble settings. To accommodate his diverse musical styles, Scott needed a serious instrument that would cut through with clear low end, but with the warmth and trebles needed for pristine solo work. In Scott’s own words, ‘we weren’t going for a signature model from the outset, we just ended up designing a killer guitar with my name on it. I totally respect the consistency and build quality the SCGC shop puts out. I have three of their instruments, plus, it’s just a great family of folks running a small, sustainable shop that are super fun to hang out with. Made it an easy choice.”
The D-Law is a superb combination of tonewoods and construction. The top is made from premium Italian Spruce, a very responsive tonewood known for clarity and punch, but broken in a bit more for easy of playing and dynamics. With Adirondack Spruce double tapered bracing and scalloped tone bars and Hot Hide Glue construction gives this an extra boost of horsepower under the hood. Honduran Mahogany is the perfect pair for the back and sides for balance and warmth. Custom aesthetics like the vintage sunburst top, full tortoise backlit bindings, violin purfle top border, vintage long saddle and more set off the D-Law as a great signature dreadnought.
