This excellent condition 2023 custom Koa 000 is a vintage inspired heirloom quality instrument that highlights the custom builds and premium tonewoods Santa Cruz Guitar Company is known for. Since founder Richard Hoover started building Santa Cruz guitars in 1974, he strove to build the best guitars, with the best materials. With a nod to the amazing builders of the past, but always an eye to the future, the guitars Richard and his staff build are beautiful time tested heirloom instruments. This Koa 000 is indeed a testament to that.
This custom 12-fret 000 model is crafted with a premium highly Flamed Hawaiian Koa top, back, and sides, finished in a rich, custom reddish tobacco burst. Under the hood, it features Adirondack Spruce scalloped bracing and traditional Hot Hide Glue construction- the same used on the legendary “Golden Era” instruments. Other standout custom features include a Brazilian Rosewood fretboard and bridge with striking contrast and figuring, especially between the 2nd and 12th frets, along with matching Brazilian Rosewood bindings on the body, fretboard, and headstock, plus back and end strips. The Mahogany neck features a classic slotted headstock topped with a matching Flamed Koa overlay, while a Brazilian Rosewood rosette adds an elegant finishing touch to the top and Waverly Gold tuners with Snakewood buttons complete the refined aesthetic.
With a 1 3/4″ nut width and a 25.4″ scale length, this guitar offers both comfort and versatility. It responds with sweet, vibrant tones to the lightest touch, yet delivers a full, robust voice when played with a stronger attack, bringing this 12-fret 000 to life.
The OOO is the 12-fret predecessor of the OM. If access past the 12th fret is of no concern, the OOO adds some distinct advantages tonally and cosmetically. The extension of the body to the 12th fret adds additional airspace, which translates into increased sound volume and a more predominate bass in the EQ. The slotted peghead is a standard feature that adds classic styling. The peghead’s reduced mass accentuates the guitar’s open, airy ambiance, making it a fingerstyle favorite.
