A stunning custom short scale slope-shoulder dreadnought from our friends at Huss & Dalton in Staunton, VA. Inspired by the classic slope-shoulder guitars of the 1930s and ’40s but with a modern twist, this Huss & Dalton DS Custom delivers bold power, refined tone, and striking aesthetics.
This one-of-a-kind DS-41 features a premium set of Cocobolo back and sides personally selected by Brian Dickel of H&D at the NAMM Show from a renowned tonewood collector. The Cocobolo’s vivid red-orange hue, accented by dark streaks and rippling figure reminiscent of flowing hair or flames, is absolutely captivating. Cocobolo (Dalbergia Retusa) is a true Rosewood from Central America with a sweet glassy tone that is a great substitute for the famed and coveted Brazilian Rosewood and can be more visually stunning in color and figure than Brazilian.
The Sinker Redwood top complements the Cocobolo perfectly, both tonally and visually, adding warmth and depth to the guitar’s dynamic voice. Elegant Paua Pearl 41-style top trim and rosette, along with 42-style snowflake fretboard inlays, lend just the right amount of sparkle. Fully wrapped figured Maple bindings on the body, neck, and headstock ties the entire build together into one cohesive, breathtaking instrument.
Other features include Ebony fretboard and bridge, Mahogany neck, Figured Maple heelcap and wedge, Cocobolo headstock overlay, Gotoh Gold butterbean tuners, Adirondack Spruce bracing, 1 11/16″ nut width, 2 7/32″ saddle spacing, 24.75″ short scale length, 4″ soundhole and more.
