Another great custom from our friends at Colling in Austin, TX. This custom OM2HG features a colorful red set of Cocobolo for the back and sides with contrasting dark grain paired with a German Spruce top with rich vibrant sunburst. Fully wrapped in figured Hawaiian Koa full body, fretboard and headstock bindings, along with custom Abalone rosette and flourish peghead inlay, Adirondack Spruce bracing, no tongue brace and Gold Waverly tuners.
Cocobolo (Dalbergia retusa) is a true Rosewood from Central America that compares with Brazilian Rosewood in terms of tonal quality, warmth and stunning beauty. It is denser and harder than most other Rosewoods and thus creates great sustain and a powerful tone. Paired with the 50+ year old Old Growth Sitka Spruce top, this guitar has the warmth, presence and clarity with a broken in feel that is versatile for all styles of playing.
Other features include Ebony fretboard and bridge, Mahogany gloss neck with matching stain, herringbone top purfling, figured Koa heelcap and wedge, Ebony headstock overlay, zig zag backstrip, 1 3/4″ nut width and more.
‘OM’ stands for “Orchestra Model,” but 80 years after this body shape was first designed it has become the most popular 14-fret model with fingerstyle guitar soloists who choose to play on steel strings as well as flatpickers alike. The compact shape makes the Collings OM2HG equally easy to handle onstage or when sitting on the couch, and the relatively shallow body (barely over 4 inches deep) results in balanced tone and an immediate response.
