A unique first ever build from Bourgeois Guitars? Here it is. This is the first ever carved back SJ from Bourgeois Guitars featuring the fully carved back inside and out with a flat top construction. A showpiece at the 2024 Fretboard Summit In Chicago this custom SJ is built with multi-figured Maple carved back, sides and neck from Northern Maine. This wood was harvested by the builders at Bourgeois who found it fallen yet suspended in a remote area and took a few years to get to with a flatbed truck and winch to and retrieve. They knew there was something special by the figuring visible on the outside of the large tree. A perfect paring for this Maple is a great set of Bearclaw Adirondack Red Spruce from northern Appalachia for the top. What better than local wood like this to showcase this unicorn prototype build.
Features include full Ebony body, neck and headstock bindings, 25″ short scale configuration, Aged Tone torrefied Adirondack Spruce bracing, Mother of Pearl and Abalone Chevron fretboard, bridge and headstock inlays, Ebony fretboard and bridge, Waverly Gold tuners with Ebony buttons, Ebony front and back headstock overlay, Ebony bound oval soundhole, Antique Walrus Ivory pins, 1 23/32″ nut width, 2.2″ saddle spacing and more. With a comfortable 15 3/8″ lower bout an 25″ short scale length, this custom SJ build is a size that’s just right. Warmth and clarity with vintage tone complete this robust custom SJ.
This is a sweet combination of a carved guitar and flattop. Less reflective and dry than the standard flat body, this SJ has a sweeter, mellower tone with more open mid range and sustain. Perfect for voicing jazz chords to strumming chords to fingerpicking and flatpicking, this is a diverse guitar for any style you choose.
