The name Banjo Killer was coined by Bryan Sutton for his six-stringed onstage sidekick, back in the day when he burst onto the bluegrass scene in the late 1990s. Featuring a double scalloped “Banjo Killer X brace design, stiffer back bracing and a 25.5” scale, it’s a powerhouse sloped shoulder dreadnought. This guitar was a showpiece at the 2021 IBMA World of Bluegrass show in Raleigh, NC this October.
This suped up custom version has extra upgrades that make it a serious Banjo Killer. This is built with Master Grade figured Beeswing Mahogany back and sides paired with a rare premium Aged Tone torrefied Bearclaw Adirondack Spruce top. The full Aged Tone package- Aged Tone Adirondack Spruce top and braces, Aged Tone thin gloss finish and Animal Protein (AP) glue drive this build. Other classy aesthetics tie this all together- Brazilian Rosewood fretboard, bridge, headstock overlay, black, Maple, black purflings, Ivoroid body and neck bindings, DB signature wood arrow backstrip, Mahogany satin neck with snakehead headstock and 1 11/16″ nut, Nickel Waverly tuners with Ivoroid buttons and more.
This is indeed a guitar worthy of it’s name. The deep and warm bass, punch of the mids and clarity of the highs will cut through any jam and then some.
