What’s Special about this Santa Cruz F Custom Model?
The Santa Cruz F Model’s intent is versatility. Recording, performing and composing with picks or nails on the same instrument is a necessity for many of us. When your repertoire also demands full dynamics from subtle to bold, you needn’t settle nor compromise on your presentation if you have the proper tool. This Custom F model features a wonderful straight grained High Altitude Swiss Moon Spruce top and Indian Rosewood back and sides with a very attractive “Buttered Toast” burst and cowboy rope purfling. A touch of elegance with a vintage vibe.
Santa Cruz’s ability to control the EQ of the F is the secret to avoiding boominess, while maintaining impressive acoustic volume and giving an articulate voice to fingerstyle playing and open tunings. The Santa Cruz F Model’s classic shape and design make it a popular favorite choice of performing songwriters.
What is Moon Spruce and Why It’s Special to the Santa Cruz F
This is High Altitude Swiss Moon Spruce. What is Moon Spruce exactly? Moon Spruce is simply a name for spruce that was harvested and handled according to a centuries-old tradition from the Alp-regions in Europe. Carpenters and luthiers had recognized that wood that was cut under certain conditions, differs from wood that is not cut using the old traditional way of handling. The tree is cut within the last quarter of the waning moon (end of waning moon phase) in the wintertime after the growing period of the tree has stopped (low sap flow).
Special “moon calendars” for the right times in using forests, from planting a tree to the harvest, were common within the old timber-“industry”, long before industrialization took part. Now the regular forests got more and more used on a pure technical way, not considering the old traditional rules – and forgetting some hundred years of knowledge for the “right time”.
