Santa Cruz 1929 Vintage Southerner Cutaway Custom Red Mahogany

The Santa Cruz 1929 Vintage Southerner is a true cowboy guitar. This all Mahogany short scale slope shoulder sings in your hands and will have you yodeling to El Paso. We decided to do something a little different and add a cutaway and unique custom Red Mahogany stain.

On the contrary to old depression era instruments, we were discussing the cool reds that Gibson had on their Mahogany SG electrics in the 70’s and asked Santa Cruz if they could do a similar red tint on a all Mahogany 1929 Vintage Southerner. They never have and this is the first red stained Mahogany guitar they have made. Not over the top fire engine red, just enough where the grain comes through and sets it off. Unique.

The must have feature of the Santa Cruz Vintage Southerner is the shorter, 24-3/4 inch scale length. It is so yielding to the touch that fretting and reach are a pleasure. The scale puts the bridge in the optimal position to produce the comforting, growling presence of an old blues recording. So easy to play, the guitar just sings in your hands. With the added cutaway for optimal comfort and range, this is the ideal guitar for studio or stage. The Vintage Southerner will respond with considerably more refined quality than the oldies, while inspiring room to grow throughout your musical career.

The 1929 designed models pay homage to the simple and elegant instruments made for players enduring the Great Depression of 1929. The Vintage Southerner version is Santa Cruz’s take on the old J-45 design. Vintage inspired appointments like the master grade Mahogany, a period correct script style logo done tastefully in Ivoroid and beautiful Ebony bridge, bridge pins, tuner buttons, head-plate and fretboard. The rosette is an exercise in austere elegance with a rich tortoise ring nestled in a vintage Ivoroid border.
