The O-50 is George Lowden’s premium large jumbo guitar featuring master grade tonewoods. This build features the very rare offering of Ancient Bog Oak for the back and sides paired with a Sinker Redwood top with figured Koa contoured arm bevel and bindings. The master grade Bog Oak here from Lowden is dated to over 5,000 years old! The Oak was harvested from a peat bog in the UK and has been submerged in complete darkness for thousands of years. The beginning stages of fossilization and the sediment give it this rare black hue, very similar to African Blackwood. The wood has aged over millennia to become and extremely dense yet highly vibrant tone wood that is amazing to behold. This is paired with premium old growth Sinker Redwood that perfectly balances the Ancient Bog Oak.
Other appointments include figured Koa bindings and custom arm bevel, Ebony matched front and back headstock overlays, Mahogany and Rosewood 5-piece neck, figured Koa and Abalone rosette, Ebony extended fretboard with Maple purfling, Rosewood pinless bridge, 1 3/4″ nut width and more.
Handmade in Northern Ireland, Lowden guitars are finished in satin and have the look, sound and feel of old world craftmanship. Meticulous attention to detail and all wood marquetry make these heirloom quality instruments.
