Collings D2H Sinker Mahogany and Alaskan Fish Trap Sitka Spruce Custom

The custom D2H is a rare bird from Collings Guitars. Old growth woods with a great story are paired perfectly together in a unique one of a kind Mahogany dreadnought with D2H specs.

Built on Collings’ D2H platform (which is normally a Rosewood model) this custom build features a great set of figured old growth Sinker Mahogany back and sides with a light natural stain, a rare find from Collings. Sinker Mahogany is centuries old wood that has gotten encapsulated in a Central American river. Part of the early American hardwood logging trade of the 1700’s and 1800’s, some logs sank in the mud in a oxygen depleted environment, absorbing the surrounding minerals and naturally aged over the centuries. The tone is crisp, powerful and as broken in as it gets for a new build with old wood. A great pairing to the Mahogany and equally unique is the rare reclaimed old growth Alaskan Fish Trap Sitka Spruce top taken from the large floating frames that were used to create huge fish traps in the coastal waters of Alaska since the late 1800s. One of the unique characteristics of these woods that were submerged in water for a long period of time is that the very soft tissue in the cells literally is dissolved, so when it is dried out, the cells are far more “open” with very little soft tissue which makes the wood lighter and much more responsive sonically. Think of it as naturally torrified woods that us all the decades and centuries and environment to create an old guitar in a new build.

The dreadnought is wrapped in the 2H-style appointments of Ivoroid bindings, herringbone top purfling, Abalone square and diamond fretboard inlays, Exotic Ebony headstock overlay and zig zag backstrip and features Ebony fretboard and bridge, Honduran Mahogany neck, Ebony pins with Pearl dots, tortoise pickguard and more.

The Sinker Mahogany and Fish Trap Sitka Spruce has richness and balance with clarity and punch. An old bone sound in a new build, this versatile guitar has a comfortable 1 3/4″ nut width with modified V neck that makes this a flatpicking powerhouse. Depth and punch and sharpness will this cutting through any jams and turning heads anywhere you play.

Includes deluxe TKL hardshell case and Lifetime Warranty.
