The custom Collings OM1E is a unique combination of tonewoods that makes for a great versatile guitar, perfect for fingerstyle and strumming as well. Features a highly figured set of Flamed Spanish Cedar for the back and sides. This stunning tonewood (Cedrela odorata) is not a Cedar at all. It is a close relative hardwood of South American Mahogany, yet just a tad denser with a touch more punch, similar to a Cuban Mahogany. Paired nicely with a clean set of tight grained Engelmann Spruce for the top with custom rope purfling. It is a light weight build with a high level of vibration and sings in your hands. Ringing true from the lightest touch, fingerstyle players will be right at home. To highlight the tonewoods, we custom ordered the SPanish Cedar and the Figured Honduran Mahogany neck with no stain to let the true color and figuring shine through. The neck shape is Collings’ modified V but with the thinner standard 1 11/16″ nut and 2 3/16″ saddle spacing for comfort

About Spanish Cedar
Not a true cedar, Spanish Cedar is actually closely related to true American Mahoganies (Swietenia and Khaya genera), as both are in the Meliaceae family. It is almost indistinguishable from Flamed Cuban Mahogany we have gotten before, and has tonal qualities very similiar as well. Despite it’s name, it is not a Cedar at all. It is from the Meliaceae family of flora, which includes Mahogany found in the American tropics. It’s a light-weight back and side wood (having a positive impact on tone) but is very stable. It’s exceptionally resonant and is well suited to both classical and steel string guitars, making it a great choice for fingerstyle players.
