Welcome to The Down Home Music School!

Down Home Guitars offers private music lessons and ensemble classes on a variety of instruments for people of all ages and skill levels. Our mission is to provide a friendly, encouraging learning environment where people can develop their craft and better express themselves musically and creatively. Whether you are new to an instrument or have been playing for decades, the Down Home Music School will help you realize your goals while having fun!

We offer lessons 6 days a week on a wide variety of instruments, taught by our qualified staff of teachers. We pride ourselves on having a professional, clean music school with the focus on personal musical growth. We currently teach over 300 lessons every week, and the testimony of happy families is our best advertisement!

The Down Home Music School is located directly above the store on the 2nd floor of the Trolley Barn in downtown Frankfort, easily accessible via elevator or stairs. Our spacious, wood-floored facility includes 6 carpeted, sound-insulated, high-visibility lesson rooms with glass doors, a recital stage, and a large waiting area with complimentary refreshments.

We also provide performing opportunities in the form of monthly open mics, all-school recitals in May and December, and local showcase events. All events are family-friendly and allow you to practice your music and get feedback in a low-key, positive environment. Performing is not required, but encouraged as an incentive to practice, as experience preparing and presenting music to an audience, and as a way to celebrate your progress and boost your confidence!

Private Lessons

At Down Home Guitars, our focus is personalized instruction. We realize that everyone learns at different speeds and has different musical tastes as well as learning needs. Because of this, you will work one-on-one with your instructor to determine your skill level and preferred direction, and from there they will build a curriculum tailored specifically for you based on your strengths, weaknesses, and goals.

2024 Tuition and Policies

Tuition is $40 for a single half-hour appointment, but most students make an ongoing weekly commitment of $175 for 5 half-hour private lessons ($35 each). Instructor schedules vary, but spots are available Monday through Saturday depending on the instrument. Discounts are available for families enrolled in 3 or more weekly spots.
