Vintage style OM-18 from the Martin Custom Shop. This long scale 000-14 fret body is built with an Adirondack Spruce top with vintage toner along with 1/4″ scalloped Golden Era style braces and old growth “Sinker” Mahogany for the back and sides. Sinker Mahogany is Mahogany cut down in the late 1800’s in Belize and meant to float down the rivers to the coast for export. Many of these large, old growth trees did not make it either sinking or stuck in the mud. Instead of rotting away, some of these were buried in the sediment in a time capsule that aged the wood but did not rot it. So you are getting 100+ year cured Mahogany.
Other custom features include a Genuine Mahogany neck with Performing Artist Profile and 1 3/4″ nut width, Nickel Gotoh butterbean tuners, Grained Ivoroid/ Maple/ black multi-ring 28 style Marquis rosette, 1930 style Ebony belly bridge, Old Style 18 select Abalone dot inlay, and much more.
This OM-18 is an incredible sounding versatile and comfortable guitar. The long scale gives you the added volume and resonance you are looking in a flatpickikng guitar or strummer (this will cut right through a jam with dreadnoughts), yet is also a great fingerstyle guitar.
