Huss & Dalton T-0014 Bearclaw Italian Spruce and Sinker Mahogany with Snakewood Bindings

This T-0014 is the very first guitar ever made by Huss & Dalton with Snakewood bindings. We ordered this, well, because we think Snakewood is just super cool and has a striking, yet classy look. We were surprised that we were the first to custom order this wood. It is a properly named hardwood with speckled dots reminiscent of, you guess it, snake skin.

We paired some great tone woods together on this really comfortable 00 14 fret. We started with a hand picked set of ‘Bearclaw’ Italian Spruce for the top (bearclaw is a term used for figuring where there are pulls or streaks in the wood that give the look of bearclaw marks). For the back and sides we picked a really striking set of ‘Sinker’ Mahogany with some great figuring. ‘Sinker’ Mahogany is a term for this old growth Mahogany cut down in the late 19th century and has been literally sunken in a river in Belize for over 100 years until recently salvaged. As always, we ordered it with no stain. We like the natural look of this wood with the striping and coloration from it’s capuled environment showing through.

Includes deluxe TKL tweed hardshell case and lifetime warranty.

Free shipping in the continental United States.

About The T-0014 Sinker Mahogany set

There are many great characteristics of Sinker Mahogany. First and foremost, it’s old wood. It’s been aging in a sort of time capsule, not rotting because it was buried in the muck and peet at the bottom of a river. The rivers in Belize were used by the British in the 1800’s to float these logs out of the rain forest to the coast to ship back to England. Some got caught up or sank and have been preserved there for over 100 years by sinking in the mud. The created a rare situation where this wood slowly aged and matured over that time.

Color and striping is another great characteristic/ by product of sunken wood. Some of these logs have soaked up minerals from the soil adding striking colorization to the woods. We prefer Sinker Mahogany to be unstained to show off the natural variations it has. For more information and to see pictures of the reclaiming process of this wood, go to  http://www.hussanddalton.com/woods.html .
